Although headaches and migraines can attack without warning, there are often triggers and knowing them can be a big help.

Some of them include changes in the weather, dehydration, hormonal changes and medication, according to Elena D. Ghiaur, M.D., is a board certified primary care physician with the Bose Medical Group at Mercy Medical Center.

Dr. Ghiaur noted that if you have more than two headaches in a week, you should seek medical advice for treatment.

"Being aware of the triggers is the main change that somebody needs to do. So it's advised that people keep a headache diary so that they become aware of their triggers," she said.

Dr. Ghiaur added that it can be one trigger or the sum of more that can bring on the headaches.
