Barbara Ashley, RN, MSN, CRNP, is an Adult Nurse Practitioner with more than 20 years of experience in caring for cancer patients. She assesses, evaluates and provides follow-up for women with benign breast problems and breast cancer at The Hoffberger Breast Center at Mercy in Baltimore.

Diverse Experience in Breast Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment

A nurse practitioner with focused expertise in breast disease, Barbara’s longtime dedication to breast cancer patients has provided her with a diverse knowledge of the screening, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Working in close collaboration with the doctors of The Breast Center, Barbara offers patients guidance through the diagnostic process and eventual treatment, when necessary. During patient visits Barbara provides counsel and information for women with questionable mammograms and helps them determine next steps in their care.

Extended Follow-up Care to Help Breast Cancer Survivors Stay Healthy

In addition to seeing new patients Barbara also has a critical role in following the many breast cancer survivors of The Breast Center. A distinguishing attribute of Mercy’s Breast Center is the long-term follow-up for breast cancer survivors to monitor their health. Barbara often sees patients regularly over a lengthy period--in many cases five years-- to assess their recovery and address any issues that may arise. This uncommon dedication to patient care is appreciated and respected by the many courageous breast cancer survivors who have sought treatment at The Breast Center at Mercy.

An Established Nurse Practitioner and Expert in Breast Cancer

Barbara has presented on numerous topics, ranging from chemotherapy to ambulatory oncology care and oncology emergencies. She has authored articles on related topics in such publications as Oncology Nursing Forum, Cancer, Current Issues in Cancer Nursing Practice, and Outpatient Chemotherapy.
