Hip Replacement Surgery by Top Orthopedic Surgeons

Total hip replacement surgery of the left hip is depicted. The procedure includes the incision, exposure of the hip joint, removal of the arthritic femoral head, placement of the acetabular hip prosthetic component (socket), and placement of the femoral head prosthesis (ball).

At Orthopedics and Joint Replacement at Mercy, our team of orthopedic surgeons works with patients to develop the best treatment plan for their hip pain. Patients throughout Baltimore seek our surgeons for their expertise in traditional hip replacement surgery as well as their advanced skills and leadership in anterior hip replacement.

What is Hip Replacement Surgery?

Hip replacement surgery relieves hip pain by replacing the diseased hip joint with an artificial joint. Prior to hip replacement surgery, an orthopedic surgeon will conduct an evaluation and take X-rays to assess the extent of the hip damage. Together the orthopedic surgeon and patient will decide if hip replacement surgery is the best treatment for a patient’s hip pain.
